Art Students Sell Pieces in University Exhibition

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

First-year fine art students sell their work in a four-week long exhibition held in the avionics building foyer.

The exhibition displays the work of eight groups of 11, each given a two day period to present their final pieces of art.

"Each group decides if they want to do a chosen theme or if you want to do their own thing. We just did our own thing and just put it together as a collection.

The group before this one did like a pop-up shop where they all stuck to a certain theme and actually sold prints," told William Taylor whose work was being displayed on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 January.

The two-day window was set up so that the first is for private viewings and sellers and the second as an exhibition open to all from 4-6pm.

"My piece was done in reference to Bridget Riley. It's kind of optical and basically about creating false perceptions of depth and distance and also moving forms using distances in reverse. All the shapes are actually the same. It's just a way of manipulating them to create perceptions of death," continued Taylor.

The exhibition is the second held by first-year fine art students who had displayed projects created from cardboard earlier in the academic year.

"I think this is different to our first exhibition. I like how it's different because with this, we've gotten much more freedom. It's been really cool to see what everyone did differently is really interesting," said Taylor.

The remaining groups will be displaying their work from Monday to Friday until Thursday February 6 between 4-6pm.
