Kingston University’s Penrhyn Road Campus hosted the Graduate Jobs Fair in the new Town House on Wednesday 11 March.
The fair ran as a chance for graduate students to meet and network with employers and find out about employment opportunities.
Graduate Outcomes Manager, Laura Inghan said: “The turnout has been really good so far. We’re halfway through the fair and we’ve had about 150 people come through and they’ve been from all different levels and study disciplines.”
The fair has ran in previous years but this was the first time in the new Town House building.
“I think it’s a good space for these kind of events because of the footfall and you get a lot of people naturally passing through who are curious, and then come in,” said Inghan.
The fair was also a chance to explore different careers and look at other avenues with students' degree but for some this was their only choice, due to a lack of options.
“I came today to try and find a job for September but there isn’t really anything here that appeals to me. They are all mostly HR and IT companies which I can’t get any jobs in. The only helpful thing was the teaching one as I’m also interested in that, so that’s one thing I got out of it. But moving forward I think they need to bring in more pharmaceutical companies and labs,” said Chemistry and Forensic Science Master’s student, Dolapo Folorunso.
The fair was a chance for students to gain an understanding of employers’ application processes despite a limited choice.
“The feedback so far has been positive and we’ll see at the end of the fair how that has gone,” said Inghan.
